AYURVEDIC VIEW OF KIDNEY

According to Ayurveda, Kidneys are composed of rakta and meda dhatus (blood and fat). Kidneys are the roots of medhovaha srotas (channel of fat tissue). So diseases arising due to deformity of these dhatus (tissues) can affect kidneys and cause their failure. High blood pressure and Madhumeha (diabetes) are two main diseases responsible for kidney failure.

AYURVEDIC VIEW OF KIDNEY FAILURE

According to Ayurveda this disease is caused by the blockage of minute body channels called srotas. The body channels involved in this case, known as mutravaha srotas, which carry urine and are responsible for the flow of liquid into and out of the kidneys. If there are blockages in the incoming channels, the kidneys are denied fluids and shrinkage occurs.
If the outgoing channels are blocked, swelling occurs and the condition is called Hydronephrosis. In Hydronephrosis the kidney swells due to the failure of normal drainage of urine from the kidney to the bladder.
There are very effective Ayurvedic herbs, such as punanarva and gokhru that can clean these channels and reduce swelling and rejuvenate the kidneys. Ayurvedic treatment aims at strengthening the kidneys, restoring its filtration capacity and general functioning of the kidneys.
Controlling blood pressure, blood sugar level, cholesterol level, body weight, smoking and alcohol consumption is important to avoid further kidney damage.
  • To restrict sodium intake, salt is minimized in diet. So avoid salty food articles
  • Low Potassium and low protein intake is advised in Kidney failure patients.
