PYORRHEA

The supporting structure of tooth consists of periodontal ligaments, gums and bones. Inflammation and infection of these tooth supporting structures leads to a dental disease called Pyorrhea. Further it can lead toothache, pus formation followed by shrinkage of the gum. Untreated Pyorrhea can results in bone loss which can cause loosening/mobile teeth and the eventual loss of teeth.

AYURVEDIC VIEW OF PYORRHEA

In Ayurvedic name for Pyorrhea is 'Putidanta or Dantaveshta'. From Ayurvedic perspectives, pyorrhea reflects vitiation of rasa and rakta dhatus.

CAUSES FOR PYORRHEA

Primary cause for pyorrhea is usually a result of increased accumulation of bacteria leading to dental plaque formation causing gingivitis, a periodontal disease that infects the gum through plaque, causing pocket formation between the teeth that trap plaque and food particles accumulated, bacteria in plaque produce many toxins, which irritate the gums, causing them to become inflamed, tender and prone to bleeding easily. Bacterial activity is however, facilitated by the lowered vitality of the system.

AYURVEDIC CAUSE FOR PYORRHEA

The toxins produced due to improper digestion get mixed up with these two dhatus and then get accumulated in gums and oral cavity. These come out during actions like brushing teeth.
